Christopher Welsh, MD is a board-certified adult psychiatrist who has provided medication management and psychiatric care in the Iowa City community for nearly two decades. He treats a wide range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, trauma-related conditions, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, and ADHD.
Dr. Welsh approaches care with a blend of thoughtful, evidence-based prescribing and a whole-person perspective. While his clinical focus is on medication management, he takes time to understand the medical, psychological, social, and environmental factors that shape each person’s experience. He believes that meaningful improvement comes from collaboration, open discussion of treatment options, and an approach that respects each person’s goals and preferences. He also values the role of psychotherapy, lifestyle changes, and wellness practices as part of a comprehensive plan.
Having trained and practiced in Iowa, Dr. Welsh has deep roots in the community and a long history of working with local clinicians, therapists, and primary care providers to support patient care. Outside of work, he is an avid distance runner and enjoys spending time with family.
