I believe therapy is an opportunity to better understand ourselves, challenge the stories that may be holding us back, and discover new ways of moving through the world. Our identities, relationships, and life experiences shape how we see ourselves, but they don't have to define who we become. My goal is to create a collaborative, supportive space where you can explore these experiences, gain new perspectives, and move toward a life that feels more authentic and meaningful.
I'm Will, a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), with a Master of Social Work and a Master of Arts in Linguistics from the University of Iowa. My approach is integrative and individualized, drawing primarily from Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I recognize that no single therapeutic approach works for everyone, and I tailor our work to your unique experiences, needs, and goals.
Having lived and worked in China, Jordan, Canada, and several cities across the United States, I bring a multicultural perspective to my practice. My experiences abroad, along with more than a decade teaching academic English to adults, have deepened my understanding of identity, belonging, and the challenges of navigating different cultures and expectations. I particularly enjoy supporting individuals who feel caught between different worlds, are questioning long-held beliefs about themselves, or are seeking a stronger sense of connection and purpose.
I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, and questions of identity and self-worth. I have a special interest in supporting people in the helping professions and those committed to social justice and caring for others. Meaningful work can also be emotionally demanding, and I believe those who dedicate themselves to supporting others deserve space to care for themselves.
At the heart of my approach is the therapeutic relationship. I see therapy as a partnership built on trust, curiosity, and respect for your autonomy. Together, we can explore patterns that may no longer serve you, develop practical skills, and create new possibilities for how you relate to yourself and others. My hope is that therapy helps you build the confidence and resources to navigate life's challenges long after our work together ends.
I offer in-person therapy in Iowa City and telehealth throughout Iowa.
Outside of my clinical work, I practice No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, where I hold a blue belt, and enjoy teaching self-defense skills.
